“Julia and I discussed the theme for this print, which was clones, so I repeated everything in the design. My work always has a large amount of symmetry involved so this was a rather easy solution. The phoenix represent new life - the new year. I like to put a third eye on all the art I create for Phish - I think it represents the band, because each member is all-knowing masters of their instruments. The birds wings wrap around in a circular shape representing the shape of MSG and show continued motion. This circular motion draws the eye to the middle of the poster were the "PHISH" lettering lives. The pegasus were meant to create a somewhat surreal environment that Phish shows often become. I also wanted to merge a rigid design framework with fluid typography and let them play off each other just for fun.” - Brian Steely
