JOHN WATERS | NEW SPACE | INSHOW | GERGEL

Saturday, Dec 7th, 2007

So as it turns out, we're not the best at updating this news section of the website. The past few months we've been working with the Nickelodeon Theatre on John Waters invitations. The final product can now be found in the portfolio section along with the poster that was given out at the event. The invitations were actually Mustache Kits that contained real hair and we hear that John Waters himself thought they were pretty wonderful.  For anyone in Columbia that didn't go to see his one man show you defintiely missed one of the coolest things to come through town. If anyone is still interested in purchasing the posters, you can contact the Nickelodeon directly as we do not have any copies for sale!

At the end of October was the AIGA SC InShow Awards. The IN Show is AIGA: South Carolina's annual state-wide design competition. We've always submitted to this show in previous years as students, but this year was the first year we were able to submit as both students and professionals. We submitted 10 pieces to the show, and were informed through an invite that we had gotten 6 of the pieces into the show. At the Gala, where they present the cubes (the awards are always 5"x5" cubes, made out of a different material every year.), the Half and Half walked away with both the Professional Best In Show and the Student Best in Show. The !!! poster, which won for the professionals is now for sale in the store section.

We were also lucky enough to work with the Belinda Gergel campaign and Ferrilo & Associates on an invite for a fundraising party. We were so excited about how these turned out, and you can find them now in the portfolio section also, and you can check out a video of them here!

As most of you might know, We are moving spaces again! This time we are moving back in town and are actually going to be in Five Points right above Sid and Nancy. We are about 80% of the way through the move right now and can't wait to have our stuff setup to print again. Many thanks to Debbie McDaniels and all the people at Sid and Nancy for always being so nice! Here are some pictures of the new space if you're curious.

INDIE GRITS | SKATEBOARDS | CLASSES

Monday, May 28th, 2007

We just finished printing a 3 colour poster for the Indie Grits Film Festival. Thanks so much to John Foust at Riggs and Andy Smith with the Nickelodeon for including us on this project. Foust did a awesome job designing the poster, and we're glad to be working with such a talented designer. They will be for sale at the festival which is running May 30th through June 3rd. Be sure to attend the awards ceremony for another secret joint project!

We're also working on some custom skateboards for Blue Tile Skateboards in Five Points. We both received a board to shape to our liking, and we'll post pictures as soon as their done. The boards are being made by a good number of Columbia's best young artists for a benefit, and will be on display at Gallery 80808 in the Vista. We'll keep you posted on when the show will run.

And lastly, we'll be offering screenprinting classes this summer. At the 3-4 week class, you will learn the in's and out's of basic screen printing. Exposure, screen prep, artwork prep, and by the end of it, you'll be pulling your very own edition of shirts or art prints. For only $100, you'll have the time of your life! These classes are open to anyone that has a passion for printmaking, but require absolutely no expeirience whatos ever. Email us at info@thehalfandhalf.com to get signed up!
